A scientist, engineer, athlete, gamer, artist, writer, and coffee enthusiast walk into a bar. It might sound like the start of a bad joke, but it's actually my life. I'm Ry, and welcome to my blog, Ry's Meta. Here, I dive into the unexpected connections between art, science, sports, coffee, and everything in between. My blog is a journey of exploration—both of the world and myself. It's a place where I wrestle with big and small ideas, fueled by a love of discovery and (of course) strong, flavorful coffee.
Sadly, this means that both Sparky Science and @notesbyry on Instagram are coming to an end. It's a bittersweet reality, but I'm incredibly thankful that these platforms allowed me to share my love for science and the psychology behind human performance. They also gave me a way to bring you along and share a sliver of what I truly find captivating. There's so much that piques my interest, and I want to write about it all. While I can't promise to live up to those first two projects, I can promise to create a new space that reflects the things I love and who I am as I grow and evolve.
So, welcome to this new blog, this not-so-secret safe space. Pull up a chair, and let’s dissect the universe, break down the lyrics to a Boygenius song, debate the merits of espresso, or simply contemplate why games are just so darn fun.
Here’s a little bit about me:
My name is Ryan N., but I go by Ry.
I love the outdoors, I like to walk slowly and run really fast.
I read a lot and listen to all kinds of music—jazz, hip-hop, country, alternative, pop—all of it (except reggaeton; I’m yet to pick that up).
I have amazing friends and family scattered all over the world, all alive and well, pursuing their life’s callings while being the coolest beans I know (I’ve been meaning to say that... coolest beans has a nice ring to it).
I’m 21, turning 22 in July. I was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, and now I live in London, UK.
I study Materials Science and Engineering at Imperial College London, and I’m excited about combining my creativity, love for machine learning, and new skills in materials science to help create solutions our world desperately needs through the invention of new materials.
I'm a big lover of memes and all things meme-related, so expect some to pop up periodically in posts. Feel free to message or email me your favorites.
I think that’s a good enough place to start. Let’s see how this goes.
oh, and this is how I look:
